Good Shit

Some things that have me smiling these days:

My daughters, Munchie (8) and Malfoy (5), each donated ten inches of their hair to Locks of Love, to be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness. The local BFE Gazette ran a front page article on my girls last month with before and after pictures and the girls were interviewed on their elementary school's morning tv news.

My wonderful hubby surprised me with a trip to NYC to see Wicked and Spamalot for my birthday. It was the best surprise ever and the perfect gift for me!

I Heart NY. The energy is awesome and the people-watching doesn’t get any better. I wouldn’t live there now, but I wish I had spent some years there before I had kids. Can’t wait to go back.

Wicked. It rocked. You gotta see it. Preferably with Julia Murney as Elphaba – she’s brilliant. I’ve already got the soundtrack on my ipod (unfortunately, Julia’s not on it, but it still kicks ass).

Katz’s Deli, where Meg Ryan faked an orgasm. I had what she had (the pastrami – what did you think?) and it was so good, I didn’t have to fake it. (Not that I would – I’m not that nice.)

Spamalot. Everything you love about MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL with some additional characters and songs. Impossible not to giggle when the entire packed theater is singing and whistling along to Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

My script, THE MIDDLE AGES. Or at least, the glimpses I’ve been getting of what it could be. Now that the holidays are past and I only have about a week left of the day job before I’m a full-time writer (oh yeah – I gave notice. Yay!), I’m pushing to get it rewritten by the end of February.

Improv. Tonight was the first class of Improv II. SO much fun! I was sure I’d be rusty after a month away from it, but I had a great time and didn’t get stuck in my head – all withOUT a cold-medicinal haze.

And, if it’s true that no news is good news, then location scouting and casting for the movie formerly known as POOL BOY, n/k/a AMERICAN SUMMER are underway and the film will begin shooting in April, as Warren Zide told me before the holidays.

Hope y'all are smiling, too...

p.s. Y'know when you're bored and you get to Googling people you knew back in school? Well, in the event someone from those days actually remembers me and cares enough to Google, my maiden name was Julie Herman. (Go ahead and joke, I've heard 'em all, jackass.)
